Engaging the elderly YOU love!

Legacy Pals

11485 Edgeton, Warren, MI., 48093

Our Mission

Legacy Pals seeks to restore the highest quality of life possible for the elderly through quality one-on-one and group connections, wherever home is home.

Our Focus

Legacy Pals is committed to engaging the elderly  through five facets:  Poetry, Music, Chaplaincy,  Prayer Pals, and Community Volunteers. See more about these facets below.

Our Inspiration

Meet the first two “Legacy Pals", Theodore Orlicki (left) and myself, Rev. David Mayer. I took care of Mr. O for 8 years as a caregiver, fall 2014-spring 2022. We sang genres of music together. We prayed together. We broke bread and watched the Detroit Tigers together. And, Theodore (Mr. “O”) inspired me to compose 22 poems about Mr. O's life and legacy (see facet #1 below). These original poems are the resume for contracting the writing of “Legacy Pal” Poetry for others who wish to pass on a legacy of a senior they love, celebrate, or remember. Music, chaplaincy, prayer partners, and volunteer coordinating are the other facets of “Legacy Pals” you can learn about below, all of which were inspired by Mr. “O”.

As I venture to launch all five facets of "Legacy Pals" as the Spirit leads, I invite you to pray.  And as an ordained minister in the Reformed Church in American (RCA), I invite men and woman pastors, chaplains, deacons, and elders, from all denominations or non-denominational ministries who embrace the vision and mission of “Legacy Pals" to be compensated for the pastoral care they offer to individuals in homes or facilities as "Legacy Pal" Chaplains. Wages for chaplains will be determined per qualifications and experience. See facet #3 below if you know someone in need of personal advocate and chaplain in a facility or private home, or if you are curious about becoming a "Legacy Pal" Chaplain.

Finally, when I was assigned to care for Mr. “O” in the fall of 2014, I had no clue how God would bless the relationship with  inspiration enough to launch “Legacy Pals”. At 103 years of age, Mr. "O" passed away on May 25, 2022, and I had the honor of being at his bedside. Here’s to hoping that Mr. O's legacy will help engage and connect many seniors with devoted caring people for years to come, not just in Metro Detroit, but throughout our country and world. Way to go, Mr. O!

Legacy Pal Chaplains

Do you or someone you know in a home or facility need pastoral care?

Would you like to be a Legacy Pal Chaplain offeriing pastoral care  to seniors in their own home or a facility?

In order for modern pastoral care to work, pastors and chaplains must be willing to re-invent themselves according to God’s original design. A “Legacy Pal” ethos says that God intends for us to advocate for the elderly.  Male and female Chaplains who partner with “Legacy Pals” will have the option to visit in private homes or  facilities, providing tailor rmade spiritual advocacy and companionship for clients, according to the needs of the client, and the gifts of the Chaplain. Home visits might include one-on-one Bible time, prayer time, rosary, or communion, or sharing on-line worship experiences. One-on-one home visit protocol requires men with men and women with women. Facility visits might include one-on-one or group Bible time, one-on-one or group prayer time, rosary, communion, leading a worship service, or sharing on-line worship experiences.

If you would like to explore hiring a “Legacy Pal’ chaplain, please fill out and inquiry form. Likewise, if you are willing to consider becoming a part-time paid “Legacy Pal” chaplain, please fill out and submit an inquiry form. All inquiries will be contacted within 48 hours. Qualified Chaplain candidates will be invited to explore how to match their gifts to a client inquiry in a local home or facility.

partnering as a chaplain with Rev. David Mayer, Founder and Lead Chaplain of Legacy Pals:

While Legacy Pals is based in Metro Detroit, the ministry is not geographically limited. Qualified candidates from Metro Detroit and beyond will partner with Legacy Pals to help develop connections with their local elderly facilities in need of pastoral care. If you are an adaptive leader with a heart for advocating for the elderly in homes and facilities in the Metro Detroit area, or beyond, prayerfully consider filling out an inquiry form below.

Legacy Prayer Pals

Legacy Pals offers a way to engage with the elderly YOU love to an assigned volunteer prayer partner. Whenever possible, prayer partners will be matched geographically to visit prayer partners in local facilities. Volunteer Prayer Pals will keep up with their elderly pals challenges and victories. They will stand in the gap whenever loneliness gets the best of their elderly pals. They will provide encouragement, praise, and laughter, and inspiration they receive from God’s Word. In some cases, our Chaplains will have the opportunity to engage with an Elderly pal from a distance to prayer pal through FaceTime or conference calls.

Community Legacy Pal Volunteers

Legacy Pals seeks to to connect church and community volunteers to the elderly in facilities. We are committed to connecting local volunteers with local facilities seeking volunteers as inquiries which come in from either party. Though we are launching out of the Metro Detroit area, we are compelled to coordinate church and community volunteers wherever and whenever possible. For example, when an inquiry is made from a Chicago church with an eager team of volunteers who wish to serve in a local facility, Legacy Pals will do the leg work to connect the team to the right contact in a local facility which would welcome local volunteers. Likewise, when an inquiry is made from a Los Angeles or a small Wisconsin town facility for volunteers, Legacy Pals will do the leg work to get them connected to the right local point person from a church or community with volunteers. We believe that untapped resources at churches and various communities can be matched with the many post-covid needs which have grown in our elderly facilities. Your church or community group is invited to stand in the gap  with us to make a difference.
